Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals

It is a privilege to be allowed into people’s lives in some of the most precious and poignant moments of life.

BAPTISMS

With every new birth, there is the desire of every parent to say thank you to God for this precious gift, and some decide to do this at church. You are always welcome to give those thanks at baptism at church. There is no cost involved and the services are inclusive of all ages. I will meet with you prior to the Baptism to talk about the service with you, and the service will be tailored to your child and you.

WEDDINGS

Congratulations on your engagement. We know that getting married is a big decision and we would be privileged to be part of your big day. For your decision has an impact on family, friends and the whole society. A wedding is a time of rejoicing, of making promises in the presence of God and each other. Each ceremony will celebrate specifically the two of you and your families, and will be tailored to reflect the people you are. We welcome all people to get married to this church. We are registered to perform heterosexual weddings as well as same sex marriages. When we registered to marry all people, we were told that we were the first church in North Tyneside to register to marry same sex couples. There have been firsts in the past such as: the first time the women voted, or the first time there was no longer segregation, or....and the list can go on. Those firsts remind us that there is no us and them, that we are all valued, precious and welcomed. It is therefore a privilege and a challenge for us to bear this time this small 'first' title, for we need to remember time and again that all are loved by God.

If you decide to get married at St John’s, please contact the minister. She will meet with you, take you through all you need to do, plan the services with you. You will have the chance to do a practice run, so that you get all the nerves out of the way for the big day.

It will cost £450 to get married in the church and this sum includes: payment for the use of the building and the payment of the stewards, the PA operator and the minister/authorised person. If you require an organist, that will cost a further £65.

FUNERALS

We want to be there for you, in all aspects of life, and especially in the hard times of bereavements. At this sad time, there is so much to think about and to organise. You might think, because you or loved ones were not church goers, that you can’t come to church, or have a minister take the service. Please be assured that the minister can take services at church, at crematoriums, by a graveside. The minister will be there to support you every step of the way and will listen to you. The minister will create a service that celebrates your loved one with you, and you have the final say of what goes in the service. Please contact the minister to have a chat and to find support.
